Heavenly Father,
We come before You today with a declaration that does not always come easily — that we will give thanks. Not only when life is sweet and circumstances are favorable, but in all things and in every season. Your Word is clear: “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus” (1 Thessalonians 5:18). Not for all circumstances — but in them. That is a distinction that changes everything, Lord. Help us to live it.
We confess that thankfulness does not always rise naturally from our hearts. There are seasons when gratitude feels like the hardest thing You have ever asked of us — when loss has hollowed us out and the road has stretched longer than we ever imagined. In those moments, remind us that thankfulness is not the denial of our pain. It is the defiant and faith-filled declaration that You are still God, still good, and still at work — even when we cannot see it and everything in us wants to question it.
It is in the hardest moments that Your power shows up most powerfully in us. Not in spite of our weakness — but because of it. “My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness” (2 Corinthians 12:9). When we are emptied of our own strength and have nothing left but a trembling and surrendered heart — that is precisely where You do Your greatest work. The cracked vessel, the broken road, the desperate prayer whispered at midnight — these are not obstacles to Your power, Lord. They are the very places where it shines the brightest. So we thank You even here. Especially here.
