Eyes on Jesus, Always

Heavenly Father,

We come before You today with a simple and desperate prayer — that You would help us keep our eyes fixed on Jesus. Not on our circumstances, not on our fears, not on the noise and confusion of the world around us. But on Him. Only Him. Always Him. Your Word calls us to run "with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith" (Hebrews 12:1–2). That is our cry today, Lord. Fix our gaze.

We confess that our eyes wander. We look at the size of the storm instead of the One who commands it. We stare at the depth of the water beneath our feet instead of the Savior standing before us. Peter stepped out in bold faith, walked on water toward Jesus, and then "saw the wind" and began to sink (Matthew 14:30). Lord, how quickly we sink when we shift our gaze. Reach out Your hand today, just as You reached for Peter, and draw us back to You.

Father, the world is loud and relentless in its demand for our attention. Worry pulls our eyes toward tomorrow. Regret pulls them toward yesterday. Comparison pulls them sideways. But You call us to a singular and holy focus. "You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in You" (Isaiah 26:3). That perfect peace is the fruit of a fixed gaze, Lord. Steady our minds today.

Lord, remind us of what happens when our eyes are truly on You. "Those who look to Him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame" (Psalm 34:5). There is a transformation that happens in the looking — we begin to reflect what we behold. May we behold You so consistently that Your character becomes increasingly visible in our own lives.

When trials make it difficult to see past our own pain, turn our eyes to the cross. It is there we find the fullest picture of who You are — a God who loved us enough to enter our suffering, bear our sin, and conquer our grave. "For the joy set before Him He endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God" (Hebrews 12:2). If He endured that for us, we can trust Him with whatever we are facing today.

May we be a people marked by a steady and unwavering gaze — "rooted and built up in Him, strengthened in the faith" (Colossians 2:7). Eyes on Jesus in the morning when the day feels heavy. Eyes on Jesus at midnight when sleep will not come. Eyes on Jesus in the plenty and in the want, in the triumph and in the trial.

You are worthy of every glance, every thought, and every moment of our attention, Lord. There is no better place for our eyes to rest than on You.
