Jesus As Our Shepherd

Heavenly Father,

We come before You today as sheep who are deeply in need of a Shepherd. Left to ourselves, we wander. Left to our own wisdom, we stray. But You, Lord Jesus, are the Good Shepherd — and what a comfort it is to know that we belong to You. With grateful hearts we declare the ancient and ever-true words: "The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want" (Psalm 23:1).

You did not take on the role of Shepherd from obligation — You embraced it from love. "I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep" (John 10:11). You pursued us when we wandered, carried us when we were weak, and loved us when we were lost. May that truth settle deep into every heart today.

Father, remind us that You know each one of us intimately. "I know my sheep and my sheep know me" (John 10:14). You do not shepherd us as a nameless flock — You call us each by name (John 10:3). In a world where so many feel unseen, what a profound mercy it is to be fully known by the One who holds all things in His hands.

Lead us today beside still waters and into green pastures (Psalm 23:2). When we are tempted to run ahead or wander off the path, bring us back with the gentleness only a Good Shepherd knows. And when the path leads through "the valley of the shadow of death," remind us that we need fear no evil — for You are with us, Your rod and Your staff bringing comfort every step of the way (Psalm 23:4).

Tune our ears, Lord, to know Your voice so well that we will not be led astray by any other (John 10:4). Thank You that You are not a shepherd who abandons His flock — You leave the ninety-nine to search for the one who is lost (Luke 15:4), carry the weary lamb close to Your heart (Isaiah 40:11), and lead us all the way home. "Surely goodness and mercy shall follow us all the days of our lives, and we shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever" (Psalm 23:6).

You are our Shepherd, Lord. We are Yours. Lead us today — and every day — and we will follow.
