A Prayer For The Loss of a Loved One

Heavenly Father,

We come to You with heavy hearts, seeking the comfort that only Your Spirit can provide. In this season of grief, we cling to the promise that You are "close to the brokenhearted and save those who are crushed in spirit"(Psalm 34:18)..

Lord, the void left by our loved one feels overwhelming, but we thank You that we do not mourn as those who have no hope. We find rest in the assurance that for those who belong to You, to be "away from the body" is to be "at home with the Lord" (2 Corinthians 5:8).

We ask for Your peace, which transcends all understanding, to guard our hearts and our minds in Christ Jesus. When the silence feels too loud and the sadness too deep, remind us of the words of Your Son: "Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted" (Matthew 5:4). Help us to surrender our questions and our "why" into Your capable hands, trusting that You are the God of all comfort who carries us through the darkest valleys.

We look forward with expectant hearts to the day You have promised, when You will "wipe every tear from [our] eyes"and there will be "no more death or mourning or crying or pain" (Revelation 21:4).

Until that day, strengthen us to finish our own race with faith, keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith. Thank You for the gift of the life we remember today and for the eternal life we share in You.
