Does being "good" get you to heaven?

I've always tried to be the "good" girl.

When I was a kid, I didn't really get in trouble, I got great grades, I was good at band and good at choir. I was in the worship band and involved in youth group at the small church in my hometown.

And as an adult, I still like being good. But guess what?

Being "good" isn't what gives you salvation. Salvation comes from Jesus and God's grace. It's not because of who or what we are or have done, it's because of who He is.

What does the Bible say about the way to Salvation?

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. - John 14:6

I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture. - John 10:9

For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. - Romans 6:23

For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. - Ephesians 2:8-9

I should also mention that there's nothing wrong with trying to be good either! I want to teach my daughter to be kind, thoughtful and obey the Bible and her parents. BUT- being good isn't a direct line to salvation. A person can be the most thoughtful and the most kind, but if that person doesn't know Jesus, they don't have salvation.
