Psalms for the Weary - Day 1: Psalm 46

Day 1: Psalm 46

1   God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.

2   Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,

3   Though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.

4   There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy place where the Most High dwells.

5   God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at break of day.

6   Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall; He lifts His voice, the earth melts.

7   The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.

8   Come and see what the Lord has done, the desolations He has brought on the earth.

9   He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth. He breaks the bow and shatters the spear; He burns the shields with fire.

10   He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”

11   The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.

These are weary times, friends.

My goodness, there is SO much going on. Aside from what’s happening in our personal lives, our country is divided on so many levels. Our world is chaotic on so many levels. There’s so much happening at once - sometimes, I’m afraid to get out of bed and face the day...(and I know I’m not the only one experiencing that).

BUT…

A few things to remember -
1) We aren’t alone.
Our “God is our refuge and strength” every step of the way, so do not fear what the day holds!

2) Be still and know that He is God.
You should see my calendar right now - busy busy busy! I’ve noticed the busier I am, the more my heart is not at rest. I need to remember to be still and acknowledge Who He is, in the midst of the crazy.

3) He is our fortress.
He is our stronghold - the One who never wavers. We can count on Him to never leave us or forsake us, especially in the hardest of times.

As you go about your day, reflect on this Psalm and these things.
I'm so thankful we can turn to God's Word any day, especially the weary ones!

Thank you for having this bible study with us. I needed the reminder that God is in control through all the turmoil right now. Love my be still shirt to remind me also!

I’m revisiting this again today because I love these verses and needed to hear them again. In times of most turmoil and strife, I will be still and know that He is God. He’s got this.

    Love this passage so much.
My pastor presented verse 10 like this once.
Be still and know that I am God.
Be still and know that I am.
    Be still and know.
    Be still.
    Be.
Then he challenged us to sit quietly and pray this every day. ❤️

Thank you for these reminders. This scripture is perfect. Everything is so tenuous right now- but God! From Northern California
