Why I LOVE Spring!

Spring is one of my favorite seasons. I love the warmth of the sun, the extended hours of daylight, the rain showers, and the little green buds that begin to peek out of the ground. It’s a welcome reward after enduring the cold and darkness of the winter months.

Something about spring always brings refreshment to my spirit, too. I see God’s workmanship in the colorful blooms that begin to fill my garden; we celebrate Easter and the fact that Jesus rose from the grave to conquer death once and for all.

I’m reminded of a book my daughter received one year called ‘The Parable of the Lily’ by Liz Curtis Higgs. A young girl receives a flower bulb in a crate only to forget about it in the cellar and eventually throw it out. To her surprise the bulb grows into a beautiful Easter lily and she realizes it was a gift from her father, who knew all along what it would become with a little time and care.

Just like this story, God is constantly planting seeds in our lives that can grow into beautiful expressions of His love when tended properly. Things we think are long dead can be brought back to life; places that feel like ruins can be rebuilt to flourish.

A garden needs sunshine, water, and nutrients to grow. The gardener prepares the soil, clears the weeds, and makes sure the plants are in the best environment to thrive. My question to you is this - how is the garden of your heart? Are you feeding it with the Word and prayer? Is it choked up with weeds of worldly distractions? Are you getting the rest and encouragement you need to live life in victory?

God wants all of us to bloom where we’re planted! I challenge you to take inventory of your heart’s garden and give it the care it deserves so you can grow into the beautiful flower He made you to be. 

“For as the soil makes the sprout come up and a garden causes seeds to grow, so the Sovereign Lord will make righteousness and praise spring up before all nations.” Isaiah 61:11
