The Reason for the Season
What do you think of when someone mentions Christmas? If you’re like me, it’s probably something like…
The feeling of warmth through your gloves as you hold a cup of peppermint hot chocolate, steam chasing the nip from your nose. Snow falls in perfect silence, fluffy flakes clinging to the ends of your hair while your boots crunch through where it's collected on the ground. Nostalgic holiday music warbles through the air. Dressed up spruces and pines shimmer behind windowpanes, haloed by the haze of a cheerful crackling fireplace.
Maybe you picture an early morning—too early, in some cases—your steps lit only by the glint of presents snuggly tucked beneath a bedecked tree. Your sleep-deprived eyes are dazzled by the sight of little hands ripping shiny paper into pretty shreds, relishing the looks of joy on open-mouthed faces.
…How’d I do? Was I close?
If your answer is yes, you’re not alone.
It’s easy to get mesmerized by the glitz and glamor of Christmas, instead of the humble bed of hay that housed a newborn King. It’s easy to become absorbed by the magic twinkling in the air, instead of on the angels who sang to shocked shepherds of a miraculous event. It’s easy to get swept up in stories of a jolly, white bearded man who shimmies down chimneys instead of on the story of Jesus.
It’s easy to get so wrapped up in the season of giving… that we forget the gift that started it all.
As we hold our loved ones close against the chill of winter and the warmth of Christmas, let us help you remember the real reason for the season with our community favorite 'Jesus is the light of the World' t-shirt. A beautiful design--and a beautiful reminder (order by December 13 to receive by Christmas).
Luke 2:10—12, ‘And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.”’
